Schools release annual report, budget for 2020

The Otter Valley Schools - officially known as the Otter Valley Unified Union School District - has released its annual report for last year and its spending plan for 2020. The document was mailed to residences in the district and was made available online at www.rnesu.org (see below). The report includes a variety of information on the schools in the district, budget data, minutes of the annual district meeting from 2019 and a "warning" for the 2020 Annual District Meeting, scheduled for the Otter Valley High School auditorium on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at 6:30 p.m.

The meeting will be recessed to Tuesday, March 3, 2020 (Town Meeting Day), for the purpose of voting by Australian ballot on school board members and a new spending plan of $20,377,427, representing an overall annual spending increase of 3.86 percent.

Voters to decide school budgets

Whiting voters will assemble at the Town Hall at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, to hear a presentation of the Otter Valley Unified Union School District budget for the 2016-17 year. The meeting will be recessed to Australian ballot voting on the budget from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, at the Town Hall.

The Otter Valley Unified Union School District, according to a plan approved by the towns of Brandon, Goshen, Leicester, Pittsford, Sudbury and Whiting, is scheduled to begin operation on July 1, 2016. Its proposed budget for 2016-17 is $22.6 million, an equalized per pupil rate of $14,495.

At 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, the annual school meeting will be held. Voters will elect a moderator for a term of one year, a school district treasurer for a term of one year and a school director for a term of three years. In addition, voters will be asked to approve the expenditure of $633,161 ($12,606 per equalized pupil) by the Whiting Town School District. This amount represents a 9.24 percent spending decrease per equalized pupil as compared with the current year.

Whiting Town School District Warning

The legal voters of Whiting Town School District are hereby notified and warned to meet at the Town Hall in Whiting, Vermont, on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 7:15 p.m. to transact the following business.

ARTICLE I To elect the necessary School District Officers:
a. A Moderator.
b. A school district Treasurer for a term of one year.
c. A Town school director for a term of three (3) years.
d. A Town school director for a term of two (2) years.
e. A Town school director for the remaining year of a (2) year term.
ARTICLE II To receive and act upon the report of the School District Officers.
ARTICLE III To see if the voters of the Whiting Town School District will appropriate the sum of Five Hundred Fifty-seven Thousand Eight Hundred Eighty-eight Dollars ($557,888) necessary for the support of its schools for the year beginning July 1, 2013. The amount of such sum to be raised by taxes to be offset by special education revenues, state aid and other incomes.
ARTICLE IV To see if the Whiting Town School District will authorize its Board of School Directors to borrow money in anticipation of the receipt of taxes to meet the obligations of the Whiting Town School District as approved under Article III.
ARTICLE V To transact any other business proper to be done when met.
